Kenneth Arrow is Joan Kenney Professor of Economics and Professor of Operations Research, Emeritus, at Stanford University.
Professor Arrow received the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics in 1972. His seminal contributions in Economic Sciences include the impossibility theorem, the general equilibrium theorem, the endogen economic growth theorem, as well as fundamental results related to information access inequity and its impact on economic transactions. His most famous result is the so-called ”Arrow’s impossibility theorem”, which has profound implications in Economics and Social Choice, but has also proven to be inspiring for research in other areas, such as BioInformatics.
Professor Arrow is a member of the United States National Academy of Sciences and founder of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences.
The Doctor Honoris Causa Ceremony will take place at 12.00 in Mihai Eminescu Aula Magna. The honorary degree acceptance lecture will be preceded by the lecture “Romanian Scholars and Arrow’s Impossibility Theorem” delivered by Solomon Marcus, member of the Romanian Academy.
